It’s the part of the tear that best lubricates and soothes the ocular surface. Dr. Macsai studies the quality of the tear particularly the lipid layer and how a person’s diet may affect the tear based on their diet. Dr. Macsai’s study proved the basic concept that by changing the omega-3 fatty acid content of the oil glands on the eye lids (meibum glands) that the dry eye symptoms could be improved.
